Most people are familiar with that all-too-familiar scene in a movie of people getting makeovers. There’s always at least one person indulging in skincare with a face mask on and cucumbers on their eyes.
When I was a lot younger, I always wondered if that face mask did anything. Turns out – yes! But what you have to keep in mind is that there are several kinds of face masks. I keep a few different kinds in rotation, and I always think it’s a good idea to do so.
The seasons change, our skin changes, and life changes our skin. Anything can happen.
But at least once a week, you’ll have a plethora of masks to choose from, and it’ll make you feel super bougie. That, and your skin will stay looking its best. No grabbing the wrong mask again!

Why Are Face Masks Good?
Think of a face mask as giving your skincare routine a little boost when you need it. They’re an excellent addition to your skincare routine and they don’t run out quickly because you don’t use them that much.
If you’ve optimized your skincare routine with the perfect products, hopefully, your skin is feeling more balanced. But there still come moments when you’re feeling too dry. Or too oily. That’s when it’s time to reach for a mask.
Which Face Mask Is Most Effective?
This is very dependent on your skin type. If your skin is more on the dry side, I would recommend reaching for a moisturizing mask or even a sleep mask. Both of these provide extra needed moisture to your skin.
I find myself using more sleep masks and moisturizing masks in the colder months. If I’m feeling super bougie, I throw in more sheet masks.
If you’re like me and you’re more oily, I recommend finding a good clay mask.
Clay face masks are one of those things you have to feel into. Because not every clay mask is treated equally. Some masks would dry me out. But maybe that would be perfect for people that are far more oily than me!
You don’t want to overuse clay masks. They absorb oil, but if you overuse them, it can damage the natural oil barrier of your skin. This will affect your skin’s hydration levels and cause premature aging. Limit yourself to this potent treatment and make sure your other products help with oil.
I’m also a firm believer that every skin type should keep sheet masks on them at all times. Sheet masks are serum-filled sheets that you put on your face after applying your toner and serums. They’re not meant to be washed off.
They’re made for whatever your skin problem may be. Oily? Dry? Sensitive? Sheet masks are for everyone!
Which Face Masks Should I Buy?
I always have skincare recommendations when it comes to a face mask. I have a few that I go back to each time.
For oily skin, I’m a huge fan of Elizavecca’s Milky Piggy Carbonated Bubble Mask. It starts as a clay mask and turns into a decadent foam. It’s super fun to take selfies with. But also, it takes off excess oil without leaving your skin feeling stripped. Plus, the price isn’t bad, so that’s always a plus.
For another oily skin recommendation, Skinfood’s Egg White Pore Mask is for very oily people. My skin is more oily/combo. This mask is a little too drying for me, but I imagine that it would be amazing for someone else. I love Skinfood’s products and I know this would be perfect for someone. Make sure you have a good moisturizer after using this one though!
For dry skin, check out Frank Body’s Glow Mask. I love this face mask because it’s hydrating and makes my skin feel super soft. It’s a perfect addition to any skincare routine for when you need a boost of hydration after a long night out.
For every type, I have a huge list of sheet masks to check out. I may have gotten carried away, but you’re sure to find the perfect type to add to your routine!
For every type, I would also recommend a sleep mask. This is your last nightly step and it seals in all the carefully curated steps of your routine. If you want something for aging, I’m loving Elizavecca’s Green Piggy Collagen Jella Pack. But for the ultimate repair and hydration mask, check out CosRx’s Ultimate Nourishing Rice Overnight Spa Mask.
