If a restaurant has a small plate menu, I’m eagerly there. And it’s for that reason that Gypsy Kitchen is one of my favorite spots in Atlanta.
If you know me, you know I have an undying love for tiny food. And if you don’t know me, here’s a small confession: I really, really love tiny food.
It combines a few things that I love. Aesthetically pleasing things. Delicious things. And things that you can try a lot of at once with people you care about!
It’s located on the second floor in the Buckhead Village District – a trendy, bougie little area close to high-end designer labels and quaint boutiques. When I’m there, I like to close my eyes and pretend like I’m a celebrity. (Just me?)
I’ve been there a couple of times now for special occasions, and each time I’ve been, I always leave happy. The food is delicious, the view is gorgeous, and their team has blown me away with their kindness.
But let’s get into why you should visit Gypsy Kitchen at least once when you come through ATL!
What’s the Vibe at Gypsy Kitchen?
It’s amazing how the restaurant can feel lively and yet cozy at the same time. I’ve only gone there in the evenings, so it’s usually bustling with people. But somehow, when you’re at your table, it truly does feel like you’re in your own little bubble. Or maybe I’ve gotten good seating.
It feels like a nice, intimate setting to share a couple plates and a glass of wine while catching up. Nothing feels rushed. There is a certain laid-back atmosphere that the place has despite being on the upscale side of the city. And everyone has always been kind and welcoming.
How’s the Food?
It’s Mediterranean-inspired cuisine. According to their website, they boast techniques and flavors from Spain, Morocco, Greece, Lebanon, and more. There’s another tapas place in the city that also has a Mediterranean flare.
But in my opinion, Gypsy Kitchen’s flavors remind me more of the Spanish and Moroccan Mediterranean than anything else. And it’s quite delicious. There’s a rich, decadently spiced flavor that some of their dishes have. Especially the hot chicken bites, the roasted carrots, and of course the chicken tagine.
You can also get charcuterie and wine. Their seafood is wonderful. I haven’t had anything from there I didn’t like. I have my preferences, but I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve had from their menu.
Most recently, I had their seared scallops. And bless my friend for the picture I’m about to show you since she remembers to take them. I’m like Jessica Day in that one scene in New Girl where she eagerly says “Oh my gosh, look it’s food! I love food!” But for the sake of this blog, I’m making a conscious effort to get better about this. Either way, it was incredible!
And the service?
Look, I feel like this one is worth mentioning. I’m typically not much of a drinker, but the server I had recommendations ready for me! Not only that, she mentioned a place in the city that specializes in mocktails and asked if I’d been there. I hadn’t, but it intrigued me. She went to grab her co-worker to figure out the name of the place and came back to tell me so I could check it out. I thought that was sweet.
Plus, they’re happy to share their opinions on the menu and steer you in the right direction. From getting a table to getting your food, they’re a lovely bunch.
Is There A Rooftop View?
Technically, yes, and it’s on the second floor. There are other places in the city (or even in other cities) that are several floors up. And while this isn’t that, there is something quaint about this particular area.
Buckhead Village District is a really cute place to be. For the holidays, the twinkling lights from the decorations can’t be beat. Even on a regular day, I can see the other shops on the rooftops.
Gypsy Kitchen happens to have a fantastic view of the Hermès building. And you can see people shopping down below. I’m always a fan of a bird’s-eye view. But that might be because I enjoy people-watching.
The Takeaway for Gypsy Kitchen
If you’re looking for an intimate date spot or a relaxing way to catch up with friends, this is the place to be. Share plates, great conversation, and an experience that will stay on your mind long after you leave.
